| For 50 years, the Knights of Columbus has sponsored the Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose Program to honor the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of America. The purpose of the "Running of the Silver Rose" is to honor our Lady of Guadalupe and to reaffirm our commitment to the sanctity of life. |
| This past May, three Silver Roses left Ontario, Canada, and have been traversing the United States by a Western, Central and Eastern route. In November, all three Roses will come together in Laredo, Texas, to travel over the International Bridge and be delivered to Knights from Monterey, Mexico. |
| The Eastern Rose will be traveling from Maryland and will move through Virginia July 26 through August 16. State Deputy Kelly Mortensen has selected our Council to host the Eastern Route Rose on Saturday August 1, 2009. He has asked each sponsoring Council to hold a Marian Devotion Prayer service each day the rose is present, which will be open all Knights, their families and
friends, as well as to the members of our parishes. Plans are to host a series of prayer services to include a rosary, readings and litany. |
| Mt. Vernon Council, in cooperation with Good Shepherd and St. Louis Parishes, will host the rose on Saturday, August 1, 2009. As currently planned, the Rose should arrive Friday evening and we will need Knights to stand in honor of our Lady of Guadalupe from midnight until noon on Saturday August 1, 2009. At noon we will transfer the Rose to the Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Beginning at 1:00 PM and continuing through 6:00 PM, the Council will sponsor a series of bilingual holy hours, consisting of the recitation of the rosary, a brief meditation, the recitation of the Litany of Blessed Virgin Mary, and prayers promoting the sanctity of human life. This afternoon of prayer and devotion will conclude with a bilingual Mass at 6:30 PM. The closing ceremony is scheduled for after Mass. Refreshments will be served in Creedon Hall after the closing ceremony and the departure of the Silver Rose to its next “home.” |
